The terrible events that have unfolded during the devastating floods in the Balkan region have galvanised the members of the Flooding on the Levels Action Group back into emergency relief mode once again. The suffering of the people in Serbia and Bosnia feels all too familiar to the people that live on the Somerset Levels and we feel compelled to help in anyway that we can.
Many items that were donated to us during the crises of the winter floods are in storage so FLAG volunteers, along with the Somerset Flood Relief Centre and members of the community are packing these goods up to send care packages to the afflicted regions. The first consignments are due to leave Somerset on Friday 23rd May.
There is also a collection point for goods at the Latterday Saints church in Taunton.
In addition to this FLAG volunteers are working together with Khalsa Aid to provide some volunteers to help in the region. Mark Rosales and Tim Holmes are due to arrive in Sarajevo on Friday May 23rd, with a further team hoping to arrive on May 26th depending on funding.
FLAG again is overwhelmed by the support of its members for those that are suffering so severely now.
